This safari will show you the strange and out-of-the-ordinary species of northern Kenya. It’s designed for the person who is not just after the cats and the Great Migration, but loves remote areas and landscape, and wants to see new species and places that are off-the-beaten track. Apart from Samburu’s Special Five – reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, Somali ostrich and beisa oryx – you have good chances of seeing the big five and Interacting with the Unique Samburu Community.

Itinerary
Day 1: Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu: Pick up from your Nairobi Hotel at 0700 Hours and depart by road
Stop At: Equator Marker, Nyeri – Nanyuki Road, Nanyuki Town, Nanyuki Municipality 10400 Kenya
You will be driving North crossing the Equator, an imaginary line around the middle earth from the Southern to the Northern hemisphere. The equator is halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole at ‘0’ degrees latitude.
Areas located on the Earth’s equator have the fastest sunrises and sunsets. The time it takes for the sun to set and rise at the Equator is the fastest on Earth. The transition from day to night takes only a few minutes!

Stop At: Shaba National Reserve, 10km from Archer’s post, on the right side of the A2, Samburu National Reserve Kenya
Samburu is a name of Masai origin ‘Samburr’ being a traditional leather bag for carrying honey and milk. The region is characterized by vast, open landscapes, dried riverbeds (depending on the season of the year) and red volcanic soil. Rock outcroppings contrast against the dense woodland vegetation along the banks of Ewaso Nyiro meaning ‘River of brown water’, the river that gives life to the reserve.

Day 2: Full Day Samburu
Stop At: Shaba National Reserve, 10km from Archer’s post, on the right side of the A2, Samburu National Reserve Kenya
This full day in the Samburu Game Reserve will be spend searching for the big five, the Samburu five and observing the vast unspoiled scenery during morning and afternoon game viewing drive, watching crocodiles bask on muddy riverbanks and velvet monkeys frolic in the late afternoon sun.
In addition, you will have a chance to interact with the Samburu People to learn about their culture.
These five particular animals are usually only found north of the equator – the long necked gerenuk, the reticulated giraffe which is characterized by its liver-colored geometric patches defined by narrow white lines, the Grevy’s zebra which is smaller than the common zebra and looks more like a horse, the beisa oryx with black horizontal stripe running across its lower flank and the Somali ostrich males which have blue-grey necks and thighs.

Day 3: Samburu – Nairobi
Stop At: Shaba National Reserve, 10km from Archer’s post, on the right side of the A2, Samburu National Reserve Kenya
Early morning game drive in Samburu.
Breakfast will be served at the camp, depart by road to Nairobi with game viewing en route.
Arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon.
