Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Tsavo West via Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
Stop At: Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, Tsavo West Off Voi Taveta Highway, Tsavo National Park West Kenya
The sanctuary straddles the Southern Tsavo West National Park and is an important dispersal area and migrating corridor for wildlife between Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park and making it a highly valued tourism recreational area and of ecological importance. It is home to huge Cape buffalo herds, and of course, lions.
Duration: 2 hours

Accommodation included: Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge, 3 nights. The bar, restaurant, and rooms overlook 2 busy water holes, with thirsty lions.
Day 2: An extensive game drive Tsavo West includes Mzima Spring’s eco-system and hippo pools.
Stop At: Tsavo National Park West, Tsavo National Park West, Coast Province
Tsavo West offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world and attractions include elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, cheetah, leopards, Cape buffalos, and bird species including the threatened corncrake and near threatened Basra Reed Warbler. Tsavo west became infamous in 1898 when two man-eating lions preyed on and ate 145 Indian migrant workers who built the first railroad from Mombasa to Nairobi. Definitely home of the “Big 5.”

Day 3: Safari in Tsavo West or perhaps hang out at the water hole to view nonstop wildlife coming from all directions to drink.
Stop At: Tsavo National Park West, Tsavo National Park West, Coast Province
From the sight of fifty million gallons of crystal clear water gushing out of from the under parched lava rock that is the Mzima Springs to the Shetani lava flows, Tsavo West is a beautiful, rugged wilderness.

Day 4: A morning game drive in Tsavo West, then off to Tsavo East.
Stop At: Tsavo National Park East, Tsavo National Park East, Coast Province
Tsavo East forms the largest protected area in Kenya and is home to most of the larger mammals, vast herds of dust red elephants, rhinos, Cape buffalos, lions, and leopards, more affectionately known as the “Big 5.”

Accommodation included: Aruba Ashnil Lodge, 3 nights. Overlooks several water holes and is one of the best places to see wildlife in Tsavo East.
Day 5: Safari in Tsavo East includes the exploration of the incomparable Lugard Falls, which includes crocodiles and hippos.
Stop At: Tsavo National Park East, Tsavo National Park East, Coast Province
The sight of dust-red elephants wallowing, rolling, and spraying each other with the midnight blue waters of the palm-shaded Galana River is one of the most evocative images in Africa. This, along with the 300 kilometers long Yatta Plateau, the longest lava flow in the world, make for an adventure unlike any other in the Tsavo East.

Day 6: Safari exploration of Tsavo East
Stop At: Tsavo National Park East, Tsavo National Park East, Coast Province
Tsavo East also has pods of hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, lesser kudu, gerenuks, and prolific birdlife, with 500 recorded species.
Duration: 1 day

Day 7: An early morning game drive in Tsavo East, then return to Nairobi.
Stop At: Tsavo National Park East, Tsavo National Park East, Coast Province
A morning game drive to track down lions in the dawn hours before heading back to Nairobi. If you want to be dropped off in Mombasa instead, it is $140 for our gas, which is extra. You can get back to Nairobi from Mombasa on their twice a day train at $30 a person or fly back on Kenya Airways.
