Overview

Aberdare Ranges was named after the president of the Royal Geographical Society by the explorer Joseph Thompson in 1884. The park also has the most magnificent and dramatic water falls to be found in Kenya. While traversing the moorland section of the park you get a chance to visit all this wonderful sights on foot and enjoy our packed lunch at the beautiful Queen’s cave.
The Satima trail is the most scenic and gentle of all the Aberdare trails, with the route hugging the escarpments above undulating valleys and hills of rich alpine and sub-alpine flora, including species of lobelia, erica, giant helichrysum and tussock grasses.

Itinerary

Day 1: NAIROBI – ABERDARES (Overnight – Shamat Gate Campsite)

Pass By: Aberdare National Park, Aberdare National Park, Central Province
Early departure from Nairobi for Aberdares National Park and enter the park for game viewing through Treetop Gate. If lucky we might see elusive giant forest hogs, elephants, rare black and white colobus monkeys, and rich bird life. We will further drive through the montane forest, bamboo and hergenia zones and into the picturesque moorland where we will visit a magnificent waterfall and attempt Chebuswa point (3,364M Asl) before returning late evening to spend our night at Shamat Gate Campsite. Picnic lunch is served en route.

Stop At: Equator Marker, Nyeri – Nanyuki Road, Nanyuki Town, Nanyuki Municipality 10400 Kenya
Stop At The Equator We will stop at the Equator line. The Nanyuki town, which is right in the center of Kenya is known mainly for its equator point and hoardes of locals and tourists alike pay a visit just to stand on the equator. But, for those who are technically interested, locals arrange for an experiment to depict how the Coriolis effect works.

Day 2: LE SATIMA PEAK (4001M)-NAIROBI

Pass By: Nairobi, Nairobi
After breakfast, we drive up a steep marshy section of the trail to Twin Rock to start our 4-hour trek to Le Satima peak (4001m). On a clear day, there are opportunities to observe Mt. Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro on the horizon and even the surrounding vicinity of Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, and the Daiga hills. Later descend to connect with a transfer vehicle for return journey to Nairobi. Picnic lunch is served en route.
