Mt. Kenya, Africa’s second highest peak is regarded as the realm of Ngai, god of the local Kikuyu people. Traditionally, all Kikuyu home were built to face this sacred peak. They call it Kirinyaga, or place of light.
The mountain is an awe-inspiring sight. Its ragged series of peaks are crowned with snow, and its slopes are thick with forest. The mountain is best seen at dawn, when the days early light silhouettes its impressive summit high over the surrounding plains.
While the 5199 meter summit is a difficult technical climb, the lesser peak of Point Lenana (4985m) can be easily reached by any fit trekker. This trek takes between 3 and 5 days, through a fascinating world of forests, wildlife, and unique montane vegetation including pod carpus and groundsel, and finally one of the world’s rarest sights, equatorial snow.

Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki – Oldmoses
Stop At: Mount Kenya National Park, Mount Kenya National Park
We depart from Nairobi at 0600hrs by road and arrive in Nanyuki at 1030am where we have lunch. At 11.30hrs we shall depart from the Sirimon Park Gate. After a few formalities at the gate, the easy afternoon trek starts to help in acclimatization. We overnight at the Old Moses (3300m) in the high altitude. By end of the day we will have done 5hrs of walking

Day 2: Old moses – Shiptons Camp
Stop At: Mount Kenya National Park, Mount Kenya National Park
Starts at 0700Hrs Ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley, in this beautiful valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo, two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks.(3990m). Climb out of the North Valley and into Mackinder’s Valley, one of the broadest valleys on the mountain with many giant groundsels. We camp at Shipton’s Cabins of the Mackinder’s Valley, just below the main peaks of Batian and Nelion (4,300m) By end of this day we shall have done 8hrs of walking (leisurely) .This will be a true taste of patience, endurance and determination.

Day 3: Shipton- Summit- Oldmoses
Stop At: Mount Kenya National Park, Mount Kenya National Park
Starts at 0200Hrs. The early start enables us to reach the Peak at Sunrise. Alpine ascent to the highest peak, Point Lenana (4985m) en route up the north face little used by tourists. Four hours of stiff walking to the summit. This will be the most challenging bit of the mountain trek and will require a strong mind to reach the summit. At around 0730h we start to descend back to Shiptons Camp for full breakfast and proceed back Old Moses.

Day 4: Old Moses- Nanyuki – Nairobi
Stop At: Mount Kenya National Park, Mount Kenya National Park
After Breakfast we shall trek the last part to the gate where we will be meet our car for Nairobi.
