Day 2: Tsavo West – Tsavo East National Park
Stop At: Tsavo National Park East, Tsavo National Park East, Coast Province
You will have an early morning game drive before breakfast in the park and a visit to the Mzima springs, which are fed daily by 250 million liters of water gushing from the Chyulu Hills. This water provides an oasis of green, an underwater hippo viewing chamber, two nature trails, and some unique picnic spots.
You will see the molten lava that forms the Shetani Lava, named so by local people who thought it was the work of the devil. Sheitani means devil in Swahili. Return to the lodge for breakfast then proceed to your next destination.
You will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch then rest before the afternoon game drive. The Tsavo National Park is famous for the ‘Man-eaters’ who attacked and killed about 136 railways workers in 1898. You will get to see the pair of male, mane less lions that, unusually, hunted humans rather than livestock, evaded traps and capture for many months. Lt. Col. John Henry Patterson eventually shot the man-eaters, but the legend lives on.
